Speedlites, Speedrings, and FlexTT5
There are complications with the speedlite brackets for softboxes when using the Pocketwizard FlexTT5 transceivers. If you are a Canon user and using the extra filter between the hotshoes then you have an extra problem. The extra height of the FlexTT5 and the hotshoe filter mean you have to flip the lower mounting bracket – no big deal really. Unfortunately because the TT5 is so long, the speedlite doesn’t really make it into the softbox at all… I happened to have a Canon OC-E3 hotshoe cord so I ended up using it to connect the speedlite to the TT5 and just hang the TT5 off the side of the stand to get a much better alignment of everything.
I think most of the brackets I’ve seen from other companies are basically designed the same, so it’s just something to be aware of.
