Caring for prints - Dave May Photography
Photographs require a little care to ensure they last for many decades, but I can’t say I’ve seen any photographers talk about it.
Wall hanging photographs shouldn’t be hung in areas of direct sunlight because over time it will cause fading and breaking down of the print – I’m sure everyone has seen the effects of sunlight on faded furniture. UV glass can help mitigate some of this and is highly recommended. Canvas wraps often have a varnish for providing some UV protection and should be dusted off periodically (without any chemicals, water, etc).
Areas in the house near heat sources which can cause high variability in temperature should also be avoided to maximize the lifespan of prints.
