About this Editor's Reel
It’s long over due, but the edit reel is out! I took a little different approach to what I’ve seen in the past in a few details. You’ll notice I don’t start with a title card because you don’t have a reason to care before you see anything.
I decided pretty early on to use a handful of sequences from finished projects to give some sense of storytelling. The segments are sorted with a vague sense of story in mind. To elaborate, every morning starts with coffee. Then heading to the car to take a drive to then get to work on the days projects. Now I don’t expect people to read into it that far, but it is to show that a fair amount of thought went into it.
Once all the sequences are selected and loosely sorted, the music is selected, downloaded as a temp track, and laid into FCPX. From here I go through and adjust cuts mostly via roll edits. Several passes are made in order to double-check the edit points and evaluate the pacing to keep it engaging. The closing title card is built in the FCPX timeline through a combination of generators, blending, and custom 3d titles. Once everything is nailed down, the music is licensed, downloaded (Premium Beat in this case), and relinked followed by one last check for audio and edit points.
